I’m probably a dreamer, because to this day I haven’t given up on believing in love. Even in puberty, I repeatedly threw myself into the confusing vortex of romance and magic and was disappointed accordingly often.

I had to learn that the world outside of my longing ticks very differently. It is characterized by cultural norms, unspoken expectations when dating, countless no-go’s and seemingly clear rules about what a partnership should look like and how it should function.

I didn’t want to be alone with my “far-fetched ideas”, so I adapted and lived a wide variety of forms of partnership. Open relationships, but also partnerships that would have fit into the format of a home story in a glossy magazine. Most recently, I was married to Anja for 18 years.

To say it right away: All partnerships ultimately “failed” because of my biography and my romantic dreams. My life story was marked by my parents’ cold marriage and domestic violence. My longing for “real” love and romance found no correspondence in a world based on possessiveness and security.

My biggest difficulty in all these years, however, was that after every supposed disappointment I closed my heart and followed in the footsteps of my parents’ calculating love.

With a lot of pain and the courage to allow my feelings, I managed to free myself from the demons of my biography at the age of 64.

I have – albeit late – learned to love and live with an open and at the same time vulnerable heart.

Today I am ready to give myself to the romance and magic that I dreamed of as a teenager, and despite all doubts, to follow the path of love and clarity.
